there's a 6 yr old in the house!

max turned 6 last week. we pretty much celebrated all weekend. here are some pics from his party. it was a double party with another boy in his class.

after the party, my family went out to dinner to celebrate my sister's engagement. they met while working at UPS....

see ya, shaggy!

BEFORE

AFTER

i fluffed out his hair in the 1st pic for dramatic effect. as you can see, it was definitely time for a cut. he's holding "star bear," the class stuffed animal. max got to bring it home this week.

in other exciting news, my picky eater now likes bean & cheese quesadillas! this is HUGE! i think that letting her help me cook them played a part in her wanting to try them. hopefully she'll eat them at a restaurant.

don't make fun!

someone has called me out on the content of my previous post. so light bulbs aren't the most interesting topic. but i've got nuthin else to blog about. unless you want to hear that michael probably has the flu & next week max is the "star student." he is soooo excited about getting the extra special treatment. they have a reading loft in the classroom. whoever is star student gets to have naptime up there. that's what he's most excited about.

oh, here's a cute story from today. the kids & i went to the park. while kate was climbing up some steps, another kid starting climbing down. max looked at the other kid & said, "hey, back up! my sister's trying to climb up there." (if only he were that sweet to her at home!)

what could be better?

i'm saving money (over the long run) & using less energy!
i heard compact fluorescent lights are the bulbs of the future. so i finally made the switch since they are phasing the other bulbs out. i bought the great value brand cause they're a tad cheaper than GE. the only thing i don't like is that it takes them a while to warm up....they start out dim & gradually brighten. but i'm totally looking forward to not changing a light bulb for 9 years*!
